Roller garage doors?

Does anyone have any experience of roller garage doors? My up-and-over garage door is broken and I was thinking of getting a metal roller door – possible with electric motor. Would you recommend them or should I go for the up-and-over one again? I want something that will be secure and reliable as this is the second time I've had to replace the garage door. Also, can they be painted? The garage is attached to the house and I'm wondering aesthetically what it will look like. Finally, does anyone know of any dealers in Northern Ireland that supply and fit these?

Any useful info would be much appreciated, thanks.

Ive just had a double garage built and had a 14ft roller door put on………..remote controlled.
Its fantastic..brilliant.
The only negative thing I can say about it, is that it isnt draft proof at the top, something I didnt consider when making comparisons, but having said that, I would have still chosen a roller all things considered.
I bought mine off eBay.with no problems., good choice of colours………heres the link.
Oh…..one more thing. I phoned the manufactures for recommended fitters and they gave me some local companies who quoted £600 plus. I had to again speak to the manufactures (tech dept) who said they would have fitted it for a couple of hundred and were disgusted that the customer info dept had given me numbers of independent fitters, charging ridiculous amounts. So get a quote from the manufactures when you decide which one you want.
Good luck.

Hi, I live in Sheffield Uk, so it's no point in me telling you where mine came from. I had a very heavy up and over, and I pulled a ligament in my shoulder lifting it up. So we had a roller fitted it is a double garage so it cost me £1,000. I find it very easy to lift up but having a remote control would have put another £500 on the price, due to if anything goes wrong and they have to come out. Yes I was told they can be painted, but would need special paint, which it tells you about in the brochure. Finally mine is also attatched to the house, but underneath our living room and it does look quite good. Hope I have been able to help.
